Why Riveiro Is Concerned Despite Pirates’ Run

Jose Riveiro, head coach of Orlando Pirates during the CAF Champions League 2024/25 football match between Pirates and Jwaneng Galaxy at Orlando Stadium on 21 September 2024

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has appeared to be concerned despite the team's impressive run this season.

Following their inspiring 3-0 win over Polokwane City on Tuesday, the Buccaneers have now won seven and drawn two from their nine matches in all competitions this season.

Although the team is in second place on the Betway Premiership log behind defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on goal difference after they both won their first two matches, Riveiro appears to be concerned about Bucs' record against Richards Bay FC who are their next opponents.

In the two league matches against the Natal Rich Boyz last season, Bucs got only a point from the 0-0 draw away, while the second-round clash at home ended in a 1-0 loss.

The Soweto giants were also knocked out of the Carling Knockout competition in November by the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

"Our full attention right now, trust me, is already in Richards Bay. Recovery tonight (Tuesday), travelling to Durban, and regroup again. If I am not wrong, you can correct me, but I think we played three times against Richards Bay last season. We got eliminated in the Carling Cup, we drew 0-0 in Durban, and we lost again here in Orlando. So, it goes without saying that it's going to be a very tough game and if we want to collect the maximum (points) then we need to focus only on that one," said Riveiro, speaking to journalists in Orlando on Tuesday.
