New Portugal Boss 'Decides' Ronaldo's Future

New Portugal Boss 'Decides' Ronaldo's Future

Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly be called up to Roberto Martinez's first Portugal squad.

Portugal's new head coach has reportedly decided what he will do with Cristiano Ronaldo, who lost his place in the national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Former Ronaldo Teammate: Why Messi Is Better

According to The Athletic, the 38-year-old will be included in Roberto Martinez's first squad announcement in the coming days.

A Selecao will go up against Liechtenstein and Luxembourg in Euro 2024 qualifiers on 23 and 26 March, with Martinez believed to have called Ronaldo to tell him he will be named in the squad.

A mainstay in the side and captain for well over a decade, Ronaldo was disappointed to lose his untouchable status in the team during the World Cup in Qatar after heading to the Middle East as a starter.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner's underwhelming group campaign saw ex-head coach Fernando Santos choose to bench him in both the round of 16 and quarter-final stages.

Ronaldo, who would go on to join Al Nassr, later refused to be drawn into speculation surrounding his international future, with it still uncertain as to whether or not he will accept Martinez's call-up.

The ex-Manchester United holds the record for having scored the most goals in international football history, having struck 118 times in 196 appearances since his debut in 2003.
