Rumours of a potential Paris Saint-Germain exit for the Argentina international have been gaining momentum in recent weeks, with multiple media outlets suggesting that the 35-year-old attacker would be open to leaving the French capital when his conratc expires at the end of the season.
The Blaugrana are one of the teams that have been named as a possible next landing spot for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, and having now admitted to meeting with Messi's father, Laporta refused to confirm or deny whether he and the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner's representative discussed the possibility of a potential homecoming to the Camp Nou for the Rosario native.
"We have seen each other. I congratulated him on Argentina," the Spanish executive told Mundo Deportivo.
"We are talking about the tribute to Leo, who has extraordinary affection for Barça.
"I do not want to speak out of respect for the player, who is playing for PSG. The Leo thing is not about money, we are talking about a tribute."
Laporta became president of the five-time European champions a second time in 2021, and later that year opted not to renew Messi's deal because of the club's dreadful financial situation.
The 60-year-old Catalan native has insisted that letting go of arguably the club's greatest-ever player was necessary for the institution's future.

"I had to make that decision," he added.
"The institution is above everyone. We didn't have 'fair play'. I have a sad feeling. I had to choose and I chose the institution. In Paris we exchanged glances."
