EPL Giants To Receive Sponsorship Worth Close To R1 Billion From South African Government?

EPL Giants To Receive Sponsorship Worth Close To R1 Billion From South African Government?

Reports suggest that the South African government is in talks with a Premier League giant to provide a staggering sponsorship deal worth close to R1 billion.

 FA 'Investigating' New Chelsea Signing

According to the Daily Maverick, the tourism arm of the South African government, SA Tourism, is currently negotiating a sponsorship deal with Tottenham Hotspur.

The nation is said to be proposing a 36-month contract with the north Londoners, one that would see the English side receive R910,997,814.75 as South Africa attempts to recoup losses the country's tourism industry incurred during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

South Africa is looking to follow in the footsteps of nations such as Abu Dhabi, Malta and Rwanda, who have signed lucrative sponsorship deals with Premier League clubs in an attempt to promote their countries as suitable travel destinations.

According to Forbes, Spurs are the 10th most valuable club in the world, so it seems the South African government see being associated with such a powerhouse in world football as the right move to revive the nation's tourism.

As per the same Daily Maverick report, in exchange for the lucrative investment, SA Tourism will receive stadium branding, match-day advertising, and a five-to-14-day training camp in South Africa with the full Spurs first team, as well as access to free tickets and stadium hospitality.

In an SA Tourism presentation the aforementioned publication claims to have seen, it is said the country's tourism branch will receive media exposure to the value of £277 million (R5.9 billion).
