15 African-Born Stars Representing Non-African Nations At WC

With just five African nations set to compete at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, here are 15 African-born players who preparing to represent non-African countries at the tournament in the Middle East.

10 Big-Name Players Missing World Cup

Following Timo Werner's injury that ended his hopes of being included in Germany's World Cup squad, head coach Hansi Flick turned to Borussia Dortmund teenager Youssoufa Moukoko, 17.

The player was born in Cameroon and moved to Germany as a youngster, and has represented the European nation's youth teams. The promising goalscorer is uncapped at senior international level but will be hoping to get minutes in Qatar.

Though he came through last season, Moukoko is enjoying a breakthrough campaign at Dortmund, having found the back of the net on six occasions in the Bundesliga in 14 appearances this term already.

Two players named in Didier Deschamps' 26-man roster for the tournament hail from the African continent in veteran goalkeeper Steve Mandanda and young midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

Canada superstar Alphonso Davies, who represents Bayern Munich at club level, was born in Ghana, while Barcelona and Spain winger Ansu Fati is originally from Guinea-Bissau.

South-African born midfielder Keanu Baccus, meanwhile, was included in Australia's selection for the showpiece in the Middle Eastern country, after making his first appearance for the Socceroos in September.

Host nation Qatar have six African-born players in their World Cup squad.
