Transfer Update: Romelu Lukaku
It appears that PSG went to great lengths to try to keep Kylian Mbappe happy during the off-season, with a report from El Pais stating that the record French champions actively tried to offload Neymar.
As per the Spanish news outlet, the Les Parisiens hierarchy found two interested suitors for the Brazilian's services, said to be Newcastle United and Chelsea.
While the Magpies were able to afford to have the 30-year-old, where the club is in their project did not align with the skilful winger's ambitions.
Chelsea, on the other hand, were understood to be a club Neymar was willing to join, according to the same report.
The opportunity to play in a different league where it was possible to still challenge for the game's biggest honours was said to have appealed to the forward, but it is reported that the deal failed to materialise because of the costs involved in taking him to Stamford Bridge.
In recent weeks, it has been claimed that Mbappe felt betrayed by the Paris club's chiefs because of their failure to honour promises made to him during his contract renewal negotiations, one of which is believed to be the sale of Neymar.
The pair were also reportedly embroiled in a dressing room feud earlier this season, the effect of which seems to still be lingering.
