Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has admitted he had a different vision for how his and Neymar's time together at Barcelona would play out.
Messi: Why I Had A Bad Time At PSG Last Season
Although the two South American superstars are enjoying playing alongside one another in Ligue 1, there appears to be a piece of Messi that still wishes things had turned out differently.
Before reuniting in Paris, Messi and Neymar were part of arguably one of the deadliest trios the football world has ever seen, with Luis Suarez completing the attacking contingent that famously inspired the Catalan club's 2014/15 treble-winning season.
In 2017, a controversial and drawn-out transfer saga saw Neymar end his spell in Spain with a world-record move to the French giants, a decision that did not go down too well in the Barcelona dressing room.
Messi, at the time, was among those who reportedly fought behind the scenes to try to ensure that his colleague would stay in LaLiga, and has now acknowledged that he wishes their time at the Blaugrana would have lasted a while longer.
"Neymar and I know each other by heart, we spent a lot of time in Barcelona," he told TUDN Mexico.
"I would have liked to have more fun with him in Barcelona, but life brought us together in Paris.
"We are happy to be together. I love playing with him and being with him every day."
While Neymar has contributed to 19 goals in 11 matches so far this season for PSG, Messi has played a hand in 14 strikes in 11 outings across all competitions.
