Richards Bay coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi wanted to rub salt into Kaizer Chiefs' wound this weekend, hoping to gain an advantage in their quest to secure DStv Premiership football for next season.

Chiefs have been at their lowest point in the past week, losing their second fixture in a row, this time to Chippa United in the PSL.

For this reason, the KwaZulu-Natal based coach felt it was the perfect time to face Amakhosi.

Their game was initially set to take place this weekend, but then due to the Nedbank Cup quarter-final schedule, the league moved the PSL game to the following weekend.

Vilakazi is not happy with the change in the schedule.

“I would’ve wanted to play them now, but we can’t because of the cup (Nedbank Cup). But I think it would’ve been good to get them while they’re still sleeping,” Vilakazi told the media as per Sports Night Amplified with Andile.

However, in preparation for the Glamour Boys’ visit to the KwaZulu-Natal province, the Natal Rich Boys have lined up a friendly.

“When they get some time (in the coming two weeks) there’s a chance for them to wake up. What’s important right now is that our preparation is spot on.

"We need to get one competitive friendly game to replace the fact that we are not playing this weekend. So, that’s what we’re going to do,” Vilakazi said.

Chiefs, who are still led by interim coach Cavin Johnson, have slumped and probably dropped out of contention for a Caf qualification spot.

Richards Bay are in a relegation fight and boosted their chances to beat the drop with a 1-0 win over Soweto outfit Moroka Swallows last Saturday.
