Junior Khanye has suggested that Kaizer Chiefs might have failed to plan properly for the future when the club was winning trophies under Stuart Baxter.
It has been nine years since Chiefs last won a trophy with their league title in 2015.

Earlier that season, Amakhosi had also won the MTN8 but things haven’t been the same since as the club has struggled to win any silverware in recent years under different coaches and players.
Khanye, who is a former midfielder and a crowd favourite for the Soweto giants, believes that the club could have planned better.
“When Kaizer Chiefs had Stuart Baxter as their coach, he had several players from the South African national team. People were happy that the team was doing well but the signs were there that there wasn’t a plan for continuation. The problem was that most of the players were nearing the end of their careers and there should have been a plan to introduce younger players into the setup. I’m talking about players like (Tefu) Mashamaite, Morgan (Gould), Tsepo Masilela, Pa Gaxa, Yeye Letsholonyane, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker. Those players were good to win trophies on their own with their own experience and there wasn’t too much coaching needed there,” said Khanye, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

“But like I say, most of those players were nearing the end of their careers, and that wasn’t going to help the club in the long run. I remember the team used to score most of the goals at the time through set-pieces. They played transition football and that was never going to last long. With all the changes that were made after, the team got disjointed and that’s why it has been difficult for them to get the desired results,” he said.
