Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Joseph Shakira Kamwendo has said that that current Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi has been the best signing for this season.

Kamwendo told Soccer Laduma that looking at all the clubs and their signings for the 2023/24 season in the DStv Premiership league Pirates made the best signing in Maswanganyi.

The Malawian-based former midfielder was talking exclusively to Soccer Laduma where he said Maswangayi deserves the Player of the Year Award for his contribution to Pirates this season.

"For me Maswanganyi is the best signing for the whole season in the whole DStv Premiership league. He has shown his good he is. He has contributed a lot to Pirates. I agree there were good signings by other teams like Mamelodi Sundowns for Lucas Ribeiro but though he has scored goals he hasn't come closer to what Patrick (Maswangayi) has done for Orlando Pirates. He has proved that when you are good it doesn't matter where you are coming from. He has really done very well," Kamwendo said.

The legend added that with the performances that Maswanganyi has put in, he deserves to be the player of the season.

"He deserved the best award of the season and that's the Player of the Season. It would also be good if the players also reward him the Players Player of the Season and he will deserve that as well. And I think his national team call-up came at the right time when he is in top of his game and doing very good for the club. He deserves the best," Kamwendo concluded.

The 25-year-old who joined Pirates from SuperSport at the start of the current season, has featured in 19 DStv Premiership league games with three goals to his name.

Pirates next game is after the FIFA break against Sekhukhune United on March 30 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane at 17h45.
