UEFA has allowed Real Madrid to close their stadium's roof for the Champions League clash against Manchester City.
UEFA has allowed Real Madrid to close their stadium's roof for the Champions League clash against Manchester City.

UEFA has reportedly approved a last-minute request made by Real Madrid ahead of their Champions League first-leg quarter-final clash against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Spanish giants have been given permission to have the roof of the Bernabeu closed when they host the Citizens.

It is claimed Los Blancos sent the request to UEFA as a last-minute ploy to create a hostile environment for their visitors, who are among the favourites for the title this term after last season's success.

Following a meeting between UEFA officials and match referee Francois Letexier, Real's request was approved.

The 14-time European champions closed the retractable roof for their home tie against RB Leipzig in the round of 16, and City have since been described as "powerless" to opposing the Spanish club's request.

Carlo Ancelotti's men crashed out of the tournament at the semi-final stage last time out at the hands of Guardiola's eventual winners, and will be out for revenge on Tuesday night.

Real have lost only one match in 90 minutes this season, with their only other defeat being a penalty shootout loss to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey's round of 16.

The second leg of their quarter-final tie will be played on 17 April at the Etihad Stadium.
