Leverkusen had been runners-up on five previous occasions, but will now finally get their hands on the main trophy.
Alonso's charges can also achieve invincible status as they are yet to suffer a defeat in the league this campaign.
Leverkusen are still in line to win a treble as they are already in the DFB Pokal finalists while they are also in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.
