The Cameroon national team risks being given a lengthy ban by FIFA following the appointment of their new manager.

The five-time African champions have been searching for a new head coach after national team icon Rigobert Song left his post as manager of the Indomitable Lions following their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 exit.

The west African juggernauts have since found his successor, with Belgian tactician Marc Brys set to take the reins of the team.

However, he was not appointed by the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT),  but by the nation's government instead.

With the country's sports ministry understood to have made the appointment official on Tuesday night, FECAFOOT has claimed to have had no knowledge on this and expressed its surprise at the decision.

"The Cameroonian Football Federation learned, at the same time as all Cameroonians, of the appointment to positions of responsibility within the national senior men's football selection," a statement from FECAFOOT read, as per ESPN.

The federation also said the decision was made "unilaterally" and expressed its "great astonishment at this act which is contrary to the terms of Decree No. 2014/384 of September 26, 2014 relating to the organisation and operation of national football teams".
