Erik ten Hag said he does not care about Manchester United's new co-owner's feelings on finishing in the top four.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has said he "doesn't care" about what the club's new billionaire co-owner thinks about the team's top four chances.

With just nine matches remaining in the Premier League for the Red Devils this season, the Dutchman's side is some way behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and fourth-placed Aston Villa in terms of points.

United, in sixth position, trail Spurs by nine points and Unai Emery’s Villa by 11 points, although they can close the gap on their opponents with a victory over Chelsea on Thursday night.

In a press conference ahead of the game, Ten Hag issued an interesting response when asked if the club's new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe would see missing out on the top four as a failure.

"I don't know and, actually, I also don't care," he said, according to the Daily Express.

"I have high standards and I would be disappointed if we didn't qualify. I know it will be very difficult, because we're not in a good position.

"But we want to win every game that is the standard we have here among each other. We will keep going and keep believing in those standards."

United go into Thursday's match on the back of a disappointing performance and result against Brentford last weekend.

The Red Devils conceded 31 shots in their 1-1 draw with the Bees, who were allowed a staggering 85 touches in United's penalty area.
