Riveiro: Pirates Going To Use A Huge Amount Of Players

Speaking at a Nedbank Cup last 16 press conference in Sandton, Pirates coach Jose Riveiro acknowledged the disruption caused by these injuries as they contend in the Nedbank Cup, Betway Premiership and the CAF Champions League.

"The challenge for us is to replace that player with guarantees. Every player is different. You cannot expect the same things from different players. We have to find the balance in the starting eleven. Balance in position. Balance in out of position. (And also find balance) in terms of leadership and every player has something to say in the squad," Riveiro said.

The Spanish-born mentor added that despite these issues, the situation presents an opportunity for other defenders to prove their worth.

"This is the time for the other players to stand up and show why they are playing for Orlando Pirates. Time for Thapelo (Xoki). Time for Innocent (Maela). Time for Mbekezeli (Mbokazi), and these (other) players who are playing well and pushing and ready to play. Let's see because we are going to use a huge amount of players in the next six weeks," the coach concluded.

Pirates will host Baroka FC in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday at 15:00.
