DStv Premiership Report: Chippa United v Stellenbosch 01 May 2021

DStv Premiership Report: Chippa United v Stellenbosch 01 May 2021
DStv Premiership Result: Chippa United 1-0 Stellenbosch Date: 01 May 2021 Venue: Sisa Dukashe Stadium Chippa United boosted their survival hopes in the DStv Premiership with a 1-0 win over Stellenbosch on Saturday afternoon. Augustine Kwem continued to lead the line for the home side despite Eva Nga Bienvenue's heroics off the bench against Kaizer Chiefs this week. Stellies, meanwhile, were looking to bounce back from loss to Maritzburg United. The Chilli Boys carried over that momentum from Wednesday and opened the scoring on 12 minutes thanks to Kurt Lentjies' finish past Sage Stephens. Steve Barker's men looked to hit back straight away but the Chippa defence held firm for the early parts of the first stanza. Stellies managed to carve out an opening after 33 minutes when Ashley Du Preez broke the down right before picking out Marc Van Heerden, but Federic Nsabiyumva was on hand to make the block. After failing to find the breakthrough in the first half, Barker made a double change at the start of the second half as Junior Mendieta and Phathutshedzo Nange were introduced. Mendieta's arrival nearly resulted in the equaliser but in the final 15 minutes as the Argentine and Nange combined to set up Jayden Adams, who saw his goal-bound shot blocked. The Chilli Boys were able to see off a late surge from Stellies to pick up maximum points, which sees the side move up to 14th spot. Here's how they started:Chippa: 30.
