Standard Liege Back In For Two Pirates Stars?

Standard Liege Back In For Two Pirates Stars?

It seems Orlando Pirates might have a tough time holding on to one of their most prized and sought-after youngsters, as a Belgian club has come calling for his name again.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Belgian side Standard Liege had inquired about Mohau Nkota while he was still in the DDC league.

Then Pirates immediately promoted him and gave him a long-term contract. Now, reliable Siya sources coming out of the Houghton club have indicated that Standard Liege are back in the chase for 19-year-old Nkota.

The sources added how the same club has also been linked to Pirates star Monnapule Saleng and that the Belgians are looking at both players.

"They have always been interested in Nkota. There was just a disturbance when Pirates promoted him to the senior team because the dynamics of the whole interest and pending deal changed. You know they didn't want him on trial so when he was promoted to the senior team Standard Liege had to look at the costs of buying him and other logistics and that's why the move didn't go through that time. But now they are back in for his services. It's believed that they will give Pirates time to think about it while they look at how best to make the move happen," the Siya source stated.

A second insider discussed how Standard Liege haven't stopped looking at Nkota's teammate Saleng, who they are also interested in.

"No, this doesn't mean the Saleng interest is off. No. They are actually looking at both of them for different reasons and you have to remember that Nkota was their first priority and after that they have also been monitoring Saleng," said the second insider.

"So, at the moment the situation is that they are looking at which player Pirates would let go first and they will take it from there but they are interested in both of them. That's true," the second insider added.

Since his promotion this season, the teenager has played senior games, scoring a brace against AmaZulu recently.

As Standard Liege renew their interest in Nkota and Saleng, according to these insiders, Pirates face a challenging decision.

With both players showing promise, the club will need to carefully consider their options.
