It's emerged from impeccable sources within the Stellenbosch FC camp that reigning DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be monitoring defender Fawaaz Basadien.
The 26-year-old left back has been one of Stellies' standout players this season and was rewarded with a Bafana Bafana call-up by coach Hugo Broos on the back of impressive performances recently.
Basadien joined the side from the Winelands in July 2022 from Moroka Swallows, putting pen to paper on a three-year contract and immediately being considered by coach Steve Barker as a key player.
Stellies were crowned Carling Knockout Cup champions last weekend following their win over TS Galaxy via penalties at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, and Basadien yet again put in a solid shift before he was sent off for dissent during extra-time for something he said to an opponent.
The Siya crew has subsequently learnt that there have been some informal talks, with the Brazilians understood to have enquired on whether Stellenbosch would be open to doing business for their highly-rated defender in the near future.
It's now likely that if there was already a price in mind, the player's recent inclusion in the national team's 50-man preliminary squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations will certainly raise his stock.
Barker has, however, made it clear several times in the media that rival clubs should take their "hands off" his players after an exodus of high-profile stars during the previous transfer window.
But everyone has a price in football and Stellies aren't ones to shy away from a big-money transfer!
