Junior Mendieta could find himself going back to his former club Stellenbosch FC on loan following the acquisition of his compatriot Matias Esquivel by Mamelodi Sundowns.
Word from Siya source is that the DStv Premiership defending champions have secured the services of Esquivel and, to accommodate him in their star-studded line-up, are seriously considering loaning out Mendieta back to his former side.
Although many were of the view that the Argentinian would be the one to help Esquivel acclimatize to the South African scene, Soccer Laduma has gathered information that he has not exactly covered himself in glory since arriving at Chloorkop.
The Brazilians have featured in almost 32 matches since the start of the season, but in all fairness, the 30-year-old has not really grabbed opportunities that he has been given and has only featured in five matches across all competitions, in most of them coming off the bench.
Indications are that with the impending arrival of the highly-rated Esquivel, Downs are negotiating with Stellenbosch FC to loan the player back to the Winelands.
This publication has been informed that loaning out Mendieta, if both parties agree to push the deal over the line during the open transfer window period, could result in the Chloorkop-based side paying a portion of his salary.
However, this would result in Mendieta being unable to face his parent club whenever the two teams come up against each other.
