Youngster Back In Downs Shop Window For European Transfer?

Youngster Back In Downs Shop Window For European Transfer?

After a few months of struggling to break into the Mamelodi Sundowns side, Jerome Karelse has been recalled to the first team for the reminder of the season.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, the 21-year-old DDC striker had attracted interest from Europe and was frustrated with his situation locally in South Africa.

Siya sources at the club have now indicated that Karelse is back in the technical team's plans which is why he has started training with the first team again.

"They have recently recalled him to the first team. They want to use him for some of the remaining games. Yes, there is interest from Europe for his services and that he had initially asked to leave the club for more game time but the club has plans for him," said the Siya source.

With the Brazilians looking to cement their authority at the top of the table and to win the PSL title, it could be that Rulani Mokwena and management may be more open to experiment with their second team going forward, which provides more opportunities for youngsters.

"They want to keep him at the team and that's why they have recalled him to the first team together with other youngsters like (Siyabonga) Mabena who played against Richards Bay on Tuesday. So Jerome's chance will come again now that he is back with the first team," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source added that if the Dutch clubs previously linked to the player might inquire about him again then Downs would consider that potential move in future.

"It's not like the club doesn't want him to move on but they feel they still need him and they want to give him that chance to play more games for the senior team and gain the needed experience so that if that European interest is still there he can move to Europe in the near future. But for now they want him to be given a chance with the big boys," the source observed.Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns and the club decided not to comment on this story.
