R100m Prize Money In Sea Robbers' Sight

With one major title already in the bag this season, Orlando Pirates have put themselves in a good position to claim as much as R100 million in prize money this season.

The Buccaneers claimed the R10 million cheque for winning the MTN8, starting the season on a high in Jose Riveiro's third campaign at the club. Pirates were knocked out in the last 16 of the Carling Knockout by Magesi FC and got R300 000.

With the Nedbank Cup starting this weekend, the Soweto giants will be determined to defend their trophy and make it three titles in a row. The last knockout competition of the season comes with a prize money of R7 million.

As things stand, the Buccaneers are set to receive $900 000 (R16.7 million) for reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League. They finished top of Group C ahead of Egyptian giants Al Ahly and are slowly establishing themselves as one of the favourites to go all the way in the competition.

Going all the way in the competition comes with a big prize of $4 000 000 (R74.4 million)  and that could come with some hefty bonuses for the players should they secure a second star.
