In the latest episode of the Lockdown League brought you by Soccer Laduma, Reyaad Pieterse and HyperSocial, South African 400m Olympic gold medalist, Wayde van Niekerk and Springbok Sevens Olympic bronze medalist, Dylan Sage, went up against each other in an intense match-up.

In the first half, van Niekerk (Liverpool) and Sage (PSG) gave nothing away. Both teams played precise possession football with very few chances between them. Brazilian star, Neymar, had the first real opportunity to put the French side ahead, however, fellow compatriot, Alisson Becker, made a smart save. Despite the Reds dominating the ball for most of the first half, both defences stayed tight and gave nothing away.

The second half saw more noise, through grunts of frustration for both players. However, much like his running style, van Niekerk's Liverpool team continued gaining momentum as the match continued and in the last 15 minutes, the deadlock was finally broken through a well taken Roberto Firmino goal, much to the athlete's delight. Although PSG pushed forward for an equalizer, Sadio Mane, who has been a constant fixture in this tournament, made it 2-0. And nine minutes before full-time, Liverpool's number nine bagged his brace to put the game beyond Sage and his French outfit.

In a very calculated and patient encounter, the personalities of both South African superstars shone through, however, the world record holder had the last laugh in the end to defeat the Blue Bulls winger.

As level three of the lockdown is only a few days away, we urge you all to stay tuned to Soccer Laduma and HyperSocial as the FIFA tournament continues to offer up brilliant match-ups. Let us all continue to follow lockdown regulations and stay safe.
