With the news that Itumeleng Khune looks set to spend more time in the treatment room with injury, we compare the key stats of Daniel Akpeyi to the Amakhosi captain and see exactly how much of a loss Khune is proving to be.

After joining at the end of the January transfer window, Akpeyi played in six out of 11 league matches after his arrival. For the other five games, Bruce Bvuma was preferred. Khune, meanwhile, played in 13 PSL matches before his season-ending shoulder injury.
This season, Khune has played just two matches, but he lasted just 28 minutes in his second outing before injury. Akpeyi has made six appearances this season due to the captain's injury problems and also a knock for Bvuma which re-opened the door for the Nigerian shot-stopper.

This is how the two goalkeepers compare since the beginning of last season:
Clean sheets: Khune 7, Akpeyi 3
Minutes per goal conceded: Khune 117, Akpeyi 105
Goals Conceded: Khune 11, Akpeyi 10
In terms of the basic stats, Khune is slightly ahead but Akpeyi is not doing badly at all with 105 minutes per goals conceded and a decent three clean sheets in six matches this season. Khune concedes slightly less with a goal every 117 minutes that he plays, but the difference is perhaps smaller than many would think.

Save Percentage: Khune 74.4%, Akpeyi 77%
Penalties Saved: Khune 1, Akpeyi 1
Win Percentage: Khune 35.7%, Akpeyi 41.6%
In terms of saves, Akpeyi's excellent season so far (26 out of 29 shots on target faced) has seen him jump to 77% overall save success at Chiefs, which is actually better than Khune since August 2018.
Both goalkeepers have saved one penalty in that period as Akpeyi denied Bradley Grobler and Khune saved Justin Shonga's spot kick. Akpeyi's excellent start results-wise to this season have also seen him go above Khune in the win percentage stats.

These numbers show that Khune was massively missed last season, but with Akpeyi's top performances this campaign, the Chiefs captain is not being majorly missed when he is out injured and Amakhosi should be able to absorb his loss over the next couple of weeks.
