CAF Confederations Cup Match Report, Zamalek V Orlando Pirates, 13 September 2015

CAF Confederations Cup

Full Time: Zamalek 4-1 Orlando Pirates

Date: 13 September 2015

Venue: Petro Sport Stadium

Zamalek finished top of their CAF Confederations Cup, Group B match after beating Orlando Pirates 4-1 at the Petro Sport Stadium on Sunday night.

The result sees Zamalek up to 15 points in Group B while Pirates finish second with 12 points.

The Buccaneers had the first effort on goal in the third minute when Sifiso Myeni tried his luck from 24-yards out, but saw his shot well-saved by the keeper.

In the tenth minute the Egyptian side almost took the lead when Mohamed El-Shenawy worked his way into the box, but saw his shot from 16-yards out strike the woodwork.

Four minutes later Zamalek took the lead when a goalmouth scramble inside the Pirates box resulted in Ahmed Hassan firing the ball home from 12-yards out, 1-0.

In the 22nd minute Mahmoud Soliman broke behind the Pirates defence, but with just the keeper to beat he completely blundered the scoring chance with poor decision making.

Ten minutes later the Buccaneers managed to equalise when Oupa Manyisa met a Thamsanqa Gabuza right-wing cross with a superb volley from ten-yards out, 1-1.

In the 36th minute Zamalek re-took the lead when some slick build-up play saw Ahmed Ibrahim through on goal and he made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, 2-1

Pirates tried to fight their way back into the match, but went into the half time break trailing by a goal.

The start of the second half saw both teams struggling to create clear-cut scoring chances as both made a few poor decisions in the final third.

Nonetheless, Zamalek managed to find their third goal in the 62nd minute when substitute Moustafa Mohamed scored with his first touch after turning home a low left wing cross from Soliman, 3-1.

Soliman then found the back of the net four minutes later after breaking behind the Buccaneers defence and coolly slipping the ball past the keeper, 4-1.

The Buccaneers tried to find their way back into the game, but the Zamalek defence stood firm and held for the win to finish top of Group B.

The result, which sees Pirates finish second in Group B, means the Soweto-based side will face another Egyptian side in Al Alhy in the semifinals of the CAF Confederations Cup.
