Along with former Barcelona teammate, Deco, the Argentine superstar visited Gabon where he took part in laying the first foundation for a new stadium in the country.

Earlier reports surfaced claiming that Messi had been paid €3.5 million (around R47 million), but the Gabon Embassy based in France, strongly slammed the false story.

Messi had been advised by his friend and former Barcelona colleague, Samuel Eto'o, to visit Gabon, as the Cameroonian has himself given back to the people in the country, where he opened a development program in 2012.
