According to the Daily Mirror, the Portugal captain told Ferguson he is not happy with life at the Santiago Bernabeu weeks before allegations of tax fraud were made against him.
Ronaldo and his former manager were at the same function a few weeks back, and it was there that the conversation supposedly took place.
The Portuguese star is believed to be fed up with the way he is treated by the Spanish side's supporters, despite leading them to the La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles this season.
The pair were also spotted chatting in the tunnel for a few minutes after the 2016/17 Champions League final in Cardiff, which got many people talking.
Ferguson is believed to still have a lot of influence and say at United, and would apparently love to see Ronaldo return to the club.
The English giants sold the forward to Real in 2009, for a then world record fee of £80 million (R1.3 billion).
