Carabao Cup Final Report: Arsenal v Manchester City 25 February 2018

Carabao Cup Final

Full Time: Arsenal 0-3 Manchester City

Date: 25 February 2018

Venue: Wembley Stadium

Pep Guardiola claimed his first piece of silverware in England as Manchester City crushed Arsenal 3-0 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

After just eight minutes, Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang could have sent the Gunners ahead after receiving a square pass from Mesut Ozil inside the box but his strike sailed straight to goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Sergio Aguero eventually opened the scoring for City following a route-one goal-kick from Bravo. The Argentinian went through on goal and shielded off Shkodran Mustafi before beating David Ospina in the 19th minute.

Arsene Wenger was forced into an early substitution as Nacho Monreal picked up a knock in the 27th minute and was replaced by Sead Kolasinac.

Bravo, who deputised for Ederson, endured a quiet opening first half as the Gunners struggled to carve out chances in the final third.

City upped their tempo with five minutes left on the clock as they pushed for a second goal, but they were unable to add to their tally and went into the break leading by the one goal.

City continued in the same manner at the start of the second half and finally found their second goal in the 58th minute when Ilkay Gundogan's shot from the edge of the box was diverted in by Vincent Kompany, 2-0.

Seven minutes later, City scored their third goal when Danilo played David Silva through on goal with a sublime pass and he duly finished with a precise shot into the corner of the net, 3-0.

Arsenal tried to find their way back into the game after that, but City shut up shop at the back to be crowned Carabao Cup winners.
