The Egyptian Football Association has officially decided to make the national team's all-time goalscorer, Hossam Hassan, their new manager as he succeeds the recently departed Rui Vitoria.

The news comes after Mosimane was recently linked with the Pharaoh's job. Although the three-time CAF Champions League winning coach just signed with Saudi Pro League side Abha, his current contract with the relegation-threatened side expires at the end of the season, leaving the door open for the South African to take on a new role soon.

However, sources close to the EFA top brass have informed Soccer Laduma that the record Africa Cup of Nations winners did not deem the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns boss suitable for the position due to his record at national team level, as they only considered Herve Renard and Carlos Quieroz as the only other coaches foreign coaches who were fit to take over the north African giants.

Despite the Kagiso native's prolific track record with Egypt's most successful club side Al Ahly, the seven-time AFCON winners have opted to go with a Hassan, who has never won a domestic title during his various stints in the Egyptian Premier League.
