What's the story?
Earlier this week, Messi completed his shock move from Barcelona to the Qatar-funded club and since moving, the club has gained 10 million more Instagram followers. This is a testament to how big the Argentine is and the massive following he has around the world.
According to the Sun, on Wednesday, the 34-year-old's shirt went on sale on the club's official website and in no less than 30 minutes, his new jersey sold out.
Long Queues
The Ligue 1 supporters and Messi fans found themselves in the longest of lines, queuing for hours, as those who could not buy the shirt online resorted to PSG's stores.
One news publication, Reuters, took videos of these lines and estimated that there were thousands of people in the lines.
How social media reacted?
This news left the world shocked with many proclaiming that it has to be a "world record" and statements such as "How big can a player be!" being uttered on social media.
One person on Twitter said, "Surely Messi has to be the greatest and most followed footballer ever," while many Barcelona fans were responding to the news with sad emojis.
