OFFICIAL: Man City Sign African Star For Mammoth Fee

OFFICIAL: Man City Sign African Star For Mammoth Fee

Manchester City have officially made an Egyptian star one of the most expensive African footballers in history following their latest acquisition.

The Citizens confirmed that they have secured the services of Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported €75 million (R1.4 billion) fee.

The Cairo native becomes City's third signing of the transfer window and their first attacking acquisition. The 25-year-old arrives at the Etihad Stadium as one of Europe's most in-form strikers, having already scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in 26 games for the Eagles across all competitions.

The Egypt international has now called time on his career at Deutsche Bank Park and has made his way to England, becoming the second most expensive African player of all time in the process, behind only Nicolas Pepe's €80 million (R1.5 billion) move to Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola will be hoping that Marmoush's form in Germany can immediately translate to the English top flight, as the Spaniard looks to be plotting a late-season resurgence.

Nicolas Pepe remains the most expensive African player in history - having held the record since 2019 after his €80 million (R1.5 billion) switch to Arsenal.

Marmoush opened up about his move to Pep Guardiola's side.

"It's a big, big honour and I'm really, really happy to be the first player to play for Manchester City [from Egypt], showing what my country has," Marmoush declared.

"Representing my country at a big club like this was something I always dreamed of. [Now] my dreams are becoming a reality of being [the first Egyptian] at Manchester City and I hope I can keep up this level.

"The Premier League is for us in Egypt the biggest league and the most followed league because of my team-mates like Mo Salah and other Egyptian players that have played in the Premier League.

"Most of the players growing up, our dream is to be here and that is why it makes me so happy that I am here to reach this beautiful league."
