How Appollis Stayed Focused Despite Chiefs Transfer Links

Bafana Bafana midfielder Oswin Appollis admits that the last transfer window was a difficult path to navigate; having been linked with a blockbuster move to Kaizer Chiefs.

It was the topic of everyone's lips for the majority of the August transfer window that Appollis was the subject of interest from Amakhosi, as well as a number of clubs from north Africa.

Polokwane City, however, were adamant in holding onto their talisman - and succeeded in doing so despite widespread interest in the services of one of their best players.

Speaking to the media at a briefing this weekend, the 23-year-old reflected on the period, revealing that he kept his eyes fixed on maintaining his place at Bafana Bafana, despite the difficulty that came with trying to ignore the constant murmurs of a big move to Gauteng.

"You know, it was very difficult,  but at the end of the day, if I don't perform, I wouldn't be called up to the national team, so I had one thing in my mind, to continue working, and continue being in the national team because if I didn't work and didn't score, I would not be here," he told journalists.

The midfielder also reflected on the change in mindset that saw him go from troubled youngster, to someone who was willing to live up to his potential.

"Looking back, I had a rough few seasons when I started playing football. And then I think because of my support system, (that) I had, always pushing me and when I get going with my form and stuff, I realised that there's a lot in football, so I just continue working hard and for that. I'm happy and I want to continue growing and learning," he added.
