Soweto Derby Squabble: It Doesn’t Mean They Hate Each Other

Soweto Derby Squabble: It Doesn’t Mean They Hate Each Other

A former Orlando Pirates striker has made a bold prediction about the team and their chances in the Nedbank Cup.

As the Buccaneers played against Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-final of the prestigious competition last weekend, ex-striker James Mothibi predicted that his former side would emerge as 2-1 winners.

During the Soweto Derby, there was a squabble as the emotions of both teams were high, but Mothibi believes that it all happened because of the heat of the moment.

"It happened exactly the way I predicted it. I knew that the score would be 2-1 after extra time. I knew that Pirates would score first and that Chiefs would equalize and that Pirates would score a second goal in extra time. It was a good game of football and I had expected it to be like that. I watched the game with a friend of mine after our game for the academy," said Mothibi, speaking to the Siya crew.

"When there was a squabble, my friend asked my why the players were being emotional, and I told him that it is all about the game. I told him that it's because it is a derby and that is why the players were being emotional. If there are no emotions, the derby will be dead. If there are squabbles, and the players appearing to be fighting against each other, it doesn't mean they hate each other. The derby has a different spark. Regarding the final, I am saying Pirates is going to win in the 90 minutes against Sekhukhune United. The score is going to be 3-1," he said.
