Siyabonga Ngezana finally put in his first full shift since moving to Romania.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana may not have tasted what it feels like to win a league title in his home country, but he is on the verge of becoming the first South African player to win a Premiership in Romania.

In only his first season abroad, the defender has managed to make a huge impact with FCSB and is now on the verge of winning the league title with the club, with the club having a 13-point lead at the summit with six matches left to play.

It would be FCSB's first league title since 2014/15 which, ironically, is the last time Ngezana's former club Chiefs tasted Premiership glory.

Ngezana spent seven years in the first team with Amakhosi, but was unable to win a league title, nor a knockout competition. It was a shaky period at Naturena for the big defender, but he has made his time in Europe count and is almost certain of success in the league, as well as qualification for the Uefa Champions, where he could join the likes of Benni McCarthy, Lucas Radebe, Thulani Serero, Tsepo Masilela, Nasief Morris and Dino Ndlovu as South Africans who have played in the competition.

The 27-year-old, who has a contract with FCSB until June 2027, has made 28 appearances in all competitions for the log leaders, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Ngezana is understood to have attracted interested in the French Ligue 1, with his value increasing following a good first season abroad.

With the league title and Uefa Champions League qualification on the cards, Ngezana will no doubt remember his first season as a player in Europe very fondly.
