While he has cemented his place at right back for Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana, Downs co-coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed why Khuliso Mudau is a difficult player to work with at training.

The coach was addressing the media ahead of their CAF Champions League first round encounter against Seychelles minnows, La Passe, who they swept aside 7-0 with an emphatic win.

He heaped praise on Mudau, who has made the step up from Black Leopards to breaking into arguably one of the toughest starting XIs in the DStv Premiership, which has earned him recognition from the national team.

“If there’s been a player that has been extremely consistent in his performances in the past two seasons it has to be Sailor, that is also a reflection of the quality that he is. Apart from [having] the qualities of being a top football player [he also has] the qualities of being a very good human being,” Mokwena told journalists of his marauding right back.

However, the young coach reckons that ‘Sailor’s’ abundance in talent could prove to be an Achilles heal for him, as he often lacks the stimulation required to train.

“He’s a difficult player to manage at training because you’ve got to stimulate him because he’s talented. When he says he wants to come here to learn and to improve, when you’re very good already, to stimulate you to be better is very, very difficult,” he explained.

So far, Mudau has featured in 10 matches this season, keeping the likes of Thapelo Morena on the bench.
