Following their scheduled disciplinary hearing on Monday, it’s thought Mamelodi Sundowns are already bracing themselves for yet another showdown with Nande Becker.
Becker is the Premier Soccer League prosecutor the club has become very familiar with over the last three seasons or so.
Some of the well documented charges led by Becker include the Wayne Arendse and Gaston Sirino saga, and the Brazilians were found guilty in both.
The Siya crew reported on Sunday night that the PSL had become the complainant after Downs and Stellenbosch were charged with delaying play when both sides stopped and clapped in the 16th minute of their DStv Premiership clash in November to pay tribute to the late Anele Ngcongca, who wore jersey No.16 at the club.
Downs are scheduled for a hearing at 5pm on Monday.
Siya sources have indicated to the crew that the Brazilians now expect to be charged for a similar “offense” in the coming weeks having also honoured defender Motjeka Madisha in the same way when they played Chippa United on January 31.
In the second minute of that match at Loftus Stadium, the two teams stopped play to applaud and remember Madisha, who died in a car accident in December.
Madisha wore jersey No.2 at the club.
The PSL, through prosecutor Becker, is incensed that Downs breached Rule 55 of the NSL handbook and did not ask for permission to pay tribute to Ngcongca and therefore brought the league, SAFA, CAF and FIFA into disrepute.
