Chippa United advanced to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup after beating TS Galaxy 2-0 in the quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon.

Nedbank Cup

Teams: TS Galaxy 0-2 Chippa United

Date: 14 April 2024

Venue: Mbombela Stadium

Galaxy were unchanged following their narrow win over SuperSport United, as former Kaizer Chiefs forwards Samir Nurkovic and Puso Dithejane were joined by Lehlohonolo Mojela and Sphiwe Mahlangu in attack.

Chippa also remained the same from their win over Kaizer Chiefs, apart from the return from suspension of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, as former Orlando Pirates striker Bienvenu Eva Nga spearheaded their attack.

The sides found chances with regularity in the opening exchanges but they were clinical in front of goal.

However, Eva Nga eventually broke the deadlock for the Chilli Boys on the stroke of half-time with a header in the box after a flick by Justice Chabalala.

The Rockets were frustrated with the lack of rhythm in the latter of the first stanza due to stoppages and had to wait for the second stanza to have a real go at United.

Sead Ramovic made a double change at half-time, as he brought on Orebotse Mongae and Kamogelo Sebelebele in places of Dithejane and Sphiwe Mahlangu for fresh energy in attack.

However, Galaxy could not break down a compact Chippa, as Nwabali had nothing much to do.

The Rockets continued to pressurize the Chilli Boys and had a lifeline in the dying minutes after they were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box.

However, Pogiso Sanoka's spot-kick for the home side was well saved by Nwabali in the bottom corner.

United had a quick attack straight after that and a were awarded a penalty for a foul on Aviwe Mqokozo in the box.

Roscoe Pietersen was accurate for Chippa, as he dispatched the spot-kick to booked their spot in the semi-finals.

The Chilli Boys joined Stellenbosch, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in the last four.
