A lot has been said about Kaizer Chiefs and the quality of their players in recent times, and the club has now been advised to guard against what happened to Leeds United of England.

Back in the day, Leeds used to be one of the powerhouses of the Premier League of England but in recent years things haven’t been the same, with the side now campaigning in the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to the Siya crew, South African football legend Smiley Moosa advised that Amakhosi should look to adopt a similar strategy like that of Premier League giants Manchester City in recruiting players.

“Kaizer Chiefs should look to copy what Manchester City are doing because when Manchester City are replacing a player they do so with a player of the same quality. When I was in England in 1972, Leeds United were the best team there at the time and the team was under Don Revie. When the players of that generation left, those who replaced them were not of the same quality and eventually Leeds disappeared. They are like Kaizer Chiefs,” said Moosa.

“If Chiefs had players in the mould of Ace Ntsoelengoe today, they would be great. I speak to Computer Lamola from time to time, and those guys are ashamed of what they are seeing. Yes, the football club is still Kaizer Chiefs but what I see on the field is totally different to what I used to know. That club was a great team when they had great players. Today they are struggling because they don’t have great players. I don’t even know some of the players but what I know is that they are not good enough and that’s why the club is where it is. They haven’t won a trophy in eight years and with the way things are going they could go another eight years without a trophy. Chiefs need new players to get the team back to where it was,” he said.
