Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has shared his input over why there were no Amakhosi players in the last Bafana Bafana squad.

That Amakhosi only had one player - on standby - in Sibogiseni Mthethwa for the 2023 African Cup of Nations is a big concern for both Johnson and the club.
Chiefs' only contribution at the tournament was the presence of Marketing Director Jessica Motaung in her role as first Deputy Chairperson of the African Club Association under CAF as well as Edmilson Dove, whose Mozambique side suffered a first-round defeat.
Speaking to the media after their goalless stalemate against Royal AM at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday, Johnson aired his concern about a lack of Chiefs visibility in coach Hugo Broos' setup, attributing the gaping absence due to the team's lack of consistency.
“Yes, Kaizer Chiefs have always had those type of players [to represent Bafana Bafana]. The problem with us is that we just have to be consistent in competing with the other teams and then our players will be in the national team,” he told journalists.
“It’s for us as well. If we improve, our players will get into the national team and improve the national team. It doesn’t bother me now, but for sure in the future Kaizer Chiefs players will be in the national team,” he said.
Chiefs' quest for consistency will come in the form of the Nedbank Cup where they have been pitted against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Milford FC at FNB Stadium on Sunday.
