With just one win in 2024, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Cavin Johnson has called on his troops to pull themselves out of their current situation.

Matters appear to be getting worse for Chiefs both on and off the field. In a valiant act, the Chiefs players opted to honour their fixture against Chippa United despite the passing of defender Luke Fleurs last week.

The Chiefs players played the game in honour of the late 24-year-old. However, matters on the field didn't quite go according to script for the Glamour Boys as they slumped to their ninth league defeat this season, as they were dispatched 2-0 by the Chilli Boys.

Speaking to the club's media department after the match, Johnson lamented his side's concession of the two goals, labeling them as 'silly mistakes' while he has called on his troops to reclaim what's left of their season.

“Having said that, we came back in the second half, chasing the game at 2-0 down, which is very difficult, but we spent about 80 per cent of the time in their half. However, we weren’t clinical enough in converting our chances into goals. We lost the game but, at the same time, I cannot say I am unhappy with the team’s performance. Apart from giving away two silly goals, I felt the players put in a good shift,” he said.

"It cannot be ignored that we have had a terrible week, having lost one of our players, yet the team was willing to play, and they deserve a lot of credit for that, after what they have been through during the week. We have got to take ourselves out of this position. Nobody else can do it for us,” he concluded.
