Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams believes the team has come a long way under Hugo Broos and do not see themselves as underdogs anymore.

South Africa are preparing to take on Algeria in the inaugural FIFA Series on Tuesday.

The clash comes just days after being held to a 1-1 draw against the lowly ranked Andorra in Algeria

“Tomorrow’s game is going to be a big one. We know they come off a very bad AFCON. They just got a new coach, that can be very dangerous. Players want to obviously put their hands up, they want to show and be counted,” Williams said via the SAFA media department.

According to Williams, his side has what it takes and plan to show that the AFCON performance was not a fluke.

“Even the football we have been playing, yes, people haven’t given us enough credit. It had to be done at a big stage like the AFCON for people to take notice about the results and the way we play.

“We showed it’s not a fluke. I think over the last few years we’ve done extremely well. We’ve beaten big nations away; we’ve qualified in difficult circumstances,” Williams said.

“There’s so much to this Bafana group now. We know that we go away to Morocco, we go with a positive mindset. When we go away like now to Algeria, we are positive.

“We don’t look as ourselves as underdogs anymore, even in Ivory Coast not so long ago. We gave a good account of ourselves,” he added.

The clash gets underway on Tuesday evening at 11pm.
