Ahead of their opening Africa Cup of Nations Match against Mali, Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse has thrown his weight behind Ronwen Williams.

Williams has managed to shake off a knee injury that saw him sidelined from training before Hugo Broos’ side jetted out to Ivory Coast.

The 31-year-old is poised to take his place amongst the sticks and lead Bafana Bafana at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium Korhogo, Ivory Coast.

Williams, along with his Bafana teammates have the full backing of Pieterse, with whom he is competing for a spot at club level.

Pieterse was amongst 32 PSL players from various clubs, who have been selected as part of the PSL’s Player Transition Programme in partnership with Multichoice and the Gordon Institute of Business Science and he took the opportunity to wish his teammates well.

“Ronwen, I wish him everything of the best. I know he has the capabilities and the qualities to help Bafana get out of the group stage and potentially win the tournament, so [I] just want to wish him and the boys all the best of luck for the game,” he told journalists.

When asked about the standard of the matches so far, Pieterse was left impressed by the quality on display.

‘So far so good, [there’s] been exciting games have been a few upsets as well. Good for the viewers, they’re entertained for the people watching. So, look, it's also nice to get some football action as well, seeing that that the PSL is closed.

“But so far, the tournaments been very good. Like I said, a lot of upsets, but the quality of the football, the quality of the players, the facilities very good and that's important,” he added.
