All 10 of the teams that made the most money in 2020/21 are from Europe, as per Deloitte's 2022 Football Money League report, which ranks teams annually based on how much revenue they generated in a particular season.

The Premier League seems to be the most lucrative in the world, with half of the top 10 all from England.

Manchester City top the lot for the first time, having generated revenue of €644.9 million (R10.5 billion) last season. The 2021/22 Premier League leaders have taken over the summit from Spanish giants Barcelona.

In the midst of their highly publicised financial problems, the Catalan giants have slipped down to fourth spot, behind second-placed Bayern Munich and 13-time UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid in third.

Club legend Lionel Messi's exit and the acquisition of players largely on free transfers in recent months is evidence of the LaLiga club's financial instability.

Messi's current club Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, accumulated €556.2 million (R9 billion) from broadcasting, matchday and commercial ventures last season, and are the sole French club in the top 10.

Another team that is the only representative of its nation on the prestigious list is Juventus.

Having won nine consecutive Scudetti between 2011 and 2020, the Bianconeri's dominance in Italy is reflected in a monetary sense too, with the only other Serie A side in the top 20 being Inter Milan.

Deloitte's report also indicated that the clubs in the Money League are still experiencing the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, with it being estimated that those teams lost more than €2 billion (R32.6 billion) due to the lack of fans at stadiums.
