Manchester United are reportedly stalling on making a major decision regarding Benni McCarthy's future at the club.

According to ESPN, the Red Devils have not yet committed to giving Bafana Bafana's all-time record goalscorer a contract extension at Old Trafford.

The former Cape Town City and AmaZulu boss was appointed as the club's forwards coach when Erik ten Hag took charge in July 2022, but with the 46-year-old's current deal set to expire at the end of the ongoing campaign, the record Premier League champions are yet to approach him with a new contract.

The Cape Town native has previously been credited with helping Marcus Rashford achieve a career high in goals scored last season, and is also believed to be popular among United players and staff, but with no renewal looming, he now looks destined for an exit at the end of the season.

The same report claims there are also doubts over Ten Hag's long-term future at the club.

It is said new United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS director of sport, Sir Dave Brailsford, have not yet been persuaded that the Dutchman is the right man for the job, but it is further claimed that a final decision on his future will be left to the incoming sporting and technical directors.

While there may be a lack of confidence in the former Ajax Amsterdam manager, the aforementioned publication added that there is a likelihood he stays at the club next season, until the end of his contract, because of a lack of prospective candidates.

The likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Liverpool are all looking for new managers and that could leave other clubs, such as the Red Devils with fewer options for the position.
