Liverpool's title hopes in the Premier League suffered a blow after losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

Premier League

Result: Liverpool 1-0 Crystal Palace

Date: 14 April 2024

Venue: Anfield

Goalkeeper Alisson was back in the Reds set up for the first time in ten weeks, while Andrew Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz returning to the side after the midweek Europa League action.

The Reds fell behind in the 13th minute when Palace carved out the Liverpool defence, with Eberechi Eze turning home Tyrick Mitchell's cross in the box.

Palace nearly doubled their lead four minutes later when Virgil van Dijk's slip allowed Jean-Philippe Mateta to go clear on goal and round Alisson, but Robertson got back in time to clear the effort on the line.

The home side went close to pulling themselves level in the 27th minute when Wataru Endo rattled the crossbar from six yards out, while goalkeeper Dean Henderson produced a fine save to keep out Diaz moments later.

With Liverpool unable to find the equaliser in the first half, they came out firing in the second half and should have been ahead on 55 minutes but Darwin Nunez was denied by Henderson at point-blank range.

Klopp made a double change for the final 25 minutes as Nunez and Diaz made way for Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, with the hosts looking to keep themselves in the title race.

With 15 minutes to play, the hosts squandered a glorious chance when Curtis Jones was slipped through on goal and with only Henderson to beat, the midfielder sent his effort wide of the mark.

The hosts were camped in the opposition half for the latter stages of the second half, but Palace remained resolute until the end to secure a famous win, as Liverpool remain in third position.
