The reigning Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions have managed to progress to the last eight of Africa’s premier club competition for the first time since the 1969/70 campaign.

Last season, they came close to lifting continental silverware for the first time when they were defeated in the final of the CAF Confederations Cup by USM Alger.

This term they will be looking to go one step further in the Champions League, but they will be going up against a force in African club football in Sundowns.

The Tshwane-based outfit have won the last six DStv Premiership titles, but in a bid to give Yanga the best possible chance of progressing, the president of the east African nation Samia Suluhu Hassan is willing to double the team’s goal cash bonus.

"Even President Samia Suluhu Hassan is ready to support these teams to reach far in the CAF Champions League…she has doubled her goal motivation package from 5 million TSZ (R37 104) to 10 million TSZ (R74 209)," said Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Dr. Damas Ndumbaro as per the Daily News.

"She wants these teams to do well and reach in the finals…in order to achieve this, we should all support our envoys."
