It seems Pitso Mosimane will not be taking over the Nigerian national team after it was reportedly revealed that the country’s football association has decided on their new manager.

Two months on from their defeat in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, it appears that the Super Eagles are edging closer to finding a replacement for Jose Peseiro.
Prior to the tournament’s commencement and his appointment as Abha Club’s head coach, Mosimane made it known that he would be interested in coaching the three-time African champions but, according to the Independent Nigeria, the Nigerian Football Federation has opted for a local coach in Emmanuel Amunike.
The decision to appoint the former Barcelona attacker, and not a foreign boss such as the Kagiso native, was allegedly because they could not afford to pay what they were demanding.
After scrutinising various CV’s, the west Africans have decided that the 1996 Olympic gold medal winner is the most viable candidate to lead the nation in their bid to qualify for next year’s AFCON and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In north America, he will be hoping to accomplish what he did at the U17 FIFA World Cup in 2015 when he was able to go all the way and lift the trophy with the Golden Eaglets in Chile.
It was at this tournament where star talents such as Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze were brought to the forefront of the world stage, and he could be reunited with the attacking duo should he be officially appointed.
