Esperance Coach Reacts To Silencing Sundowns

Esperance head coach Miguel Cardoso has reacted to his side defeating Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final.

The Tunisian side have taken a slight advantage to the second leg after securing a 1-0 victory on Saturday evening.

The ES Tunis coach was full of praise for his players who followed his tactics to the tee, as they thwarted Sundowns' every attack.

"It was a high-quality match between two of the best teams on the continent," Cardoso said at the press conference, as per the club's website.

"We delivered a tactically interesting performance that adhered to the game plan we had set out beforehand. I am extremely proud of what my players have accomplished tonight."

"As expected, it came down to details where sometimes luck can play a part, but luck goes hand in hand with hard work, and that's what we demonstrated tonight."

Carodoso admits his charges did his charges did suffer on the night against Rulani Mokwena's charges.

"We did some good things, but we also suffered and had some tough moments," he admitted. 

"But it is in these difficult moments that you see the character of the players and their ability to execute the game plan.

"They showed great solidarity and fighting spirit, and that's what allowed us to clinch this victory."
