Senegal 3-1 Cameroon

Africa Cup of Nations holders Senegal advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Cameroon 3-1 on Friday evening.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana returned to the Cameroon line-up after missing the opening game on Monday.

The defending champions, meanwhile, made one change as Abdou Diallo moved into the defence in place of Moussa Niakhaté, who was withdrawn for Pepe Sarr.

However, Onana was picking the ball out of his net on 15 minutes as Senegal opened the scoring through Ismaila Sarr, who turned well before firing into the back of the net via deflection.

Cameroon, meanwhile, barely offered any threat going forward in the first half as Senegal shot-stopepr Edouard Mendy was not forced into a single serious save.

Senegal pushed for the second goal and were rewarded in the 71st minute when Habib Diallo lost his marker before turning home a low cross from Sarr.

Cameroon gace themselves some with seven minutes to play when Jean Castelleto rose above his marker to send a powerful past Mendy.

However, Sadio Mane ended any hopes of Cameroon comeback when by turning home Idrissa Gueye's low cross with a lovely finish.

Cape Verde 3-0 Mozambique

Cape Verde qualified for the round of 16 after thrashing Mozambique 3-0 in their Group B encounter.

The Island nation came into the clash on a high after defeating Ghana last weekend, while Mozambique secured a point against seven-time winners Egypt.

This was only the fifth time these two nations have met, with Cape Verde winning two compared to Mozambique's one while the other clash ended in a draw.

The opening goal arrived in the 21st minute when former Manchester United winger Bebe found the back of the net with a superb free-kick from around 35 yards out.

Cape Verde carried that momentum into the second period, with Ryan Mendes doubling the lead on 51 minutes by dispossesing Edmilson Dove before going clear on goal to slot home.

Kevin Pina wrapped up the contest in the 69th minute with a superb effort from around 30 yards out, as Cape Verde booked their spot in the next round.
