What's the story?

Let's take a closer look at how Fleurs' teammates and a musician paid tribute to him...

Artistic tributes for Fleurs

Painter Patrick Tebogo, known for his portraits of local footballers, was seemingly commissioned by Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and Ashley du Preez for a special piece dedicated to Fleurs.

The painting shows images of Fleurs representing SuperSport United, South Africa during the 2020 Olympic Games and in Amakhosi colours, whom he joined in October last year.

A Cape Town-based rapper, Lukey Luxman, released a song in honour of his friend Fleurs, thanking him for the support and for pushing him to get better:

"This is the best way for me to express my feelings. I know how much you liked my music and always pushed me to do better and continue being myself. So, this is my way of saying thank you. May your soul rest in peace, my brother," wrote the up-and-coming rapper on IG:

RIP Luke Fleurs

South African football descended into mourning after hearing the news of 23-year-old defender, Luke Fleurs' passing.

Fleurs lost his life last week at a petrol station in Honeydew in Gauteng, while waiting to be served by a petrol attendant, Fleurs was confronted by armed males.

The former SuperSport United star was shot in the upper body before one of the suspects drove off in his VW Golf 8, followed by his accomplice in a BMW 1 Series.

Yesterday, Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, confirmed that six suspects had been arrested for Fleurs' murder, with his car being found, stripped, in Soweto.

Today is his memorial service, which is currently taking place at the FNB Stadium. Here's a tribute video shared by the Amakhosi's social media pages:
