For more than a decade the winner of South Africa's top-flight has walked home with R10m for their efforts, but in 2019/20 – for the first time ever – they will pick up a hefty R15m pay cheque if they finish on top of the table.
It's a 50% increase in prize money for the table-toppers, although everyone in the league will end up with more money after the overall prize money for the 16 teams rose by R10.4m to a grand total of R39.9m split between them.
A statement on the club's official website read, "The Premier Soccer League have announced a massive increase in the prize-money for the Absa Premiership in the coming season with the winners to pocket 50 percent more in the form of the R15-million pay-day."

The news will give an added incentive for those wishing to get their hands on the top prize, with reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, no doubt eager to retain the title for the third successive year.
Even the team finishing bottom of the table will receive nearly half a million rand as they head down into the National First Division, while finishing inside the top eight guarantees you at least R1.2m ahead of the season that follows.
